- right.

- Depends strongly on your application - I mean if you want a networking
- server for standard tcpip stuff like ftp/telnet/www/mail, or a unix-
- workstation with X11R6, cute netscape and the like, use unix software
- and gcc to write your own, then Linux is the choice.
-
- If you have bought a lot of ms-software already, like wordprocessor,
- databaseengine etc, and payed high license fees along with high
- investments in learning how to use it, then windows nt is the
- choice.
-
- It strongly depends on what you want to do with it - the OS is just
- a very basic tool, and the tools you can use with it, are just tools
- too - the key point is: what problem do you want to solve? Then you
- can decide about tools, not the other way round.

- There are packages avialable dealing with it.

- If you have already run a bussiness on DOS-Machines, you most likely have
- invested a lot of $ into software and training. If you switch to Linux,
- you have to start from scratch there, and this means additional costs.
-
- But another good point for NT (at the moment) is - it does run on
- Alpha PCs, native code as well as emulated code - old windows applications
- which where written for intel are said to run in there, too.
-
- The Linux/Alpha package has been announce by RedHat recently, too.

- Linux noone can pay... but it was a lot of fun and I will stick to it :)
-
- thanks god my life does not have to be costeffective yet...
